Cruising the delights of the Danube

danube

The Danube is the artery of Europe. Its banks are lined with gentle hills, Baroque monasteries and cities with cultural treasures in abundance. It is a river of music and castles. Short distances often mean that you’ll cruise over lunch, and visit two places in one day. If you enjoy cycling, the stretch of riverbank between Linz and Krems is ideal for this. So, combine walking with cruising and see much more on the river Danube.

You’ll have an unforgettable week of cruising. On the first day there is a flight to Munich and one hour trip by road to board AmaCerto in Vilshofen. On the second day you’ll have a wonderful morning walk along the Rivel Vils to Schweiklberg Monastery, then a short lunchtime cruise to Passau which will be visited with a local guide. On the third day you’ll awake in Linz and travel to the beautiful Austrian Lake District, viewing the Traun, St Wolfgang, Mond and Atter lakes. Weather permitting a ride on the Schafberg Railway for sensational Alpine views. On the forth day there will be a guided tour around beautiful riverside abbey of Melk. Cruising to Krems over lunch, after which you’ll visit the idyllic Wachau wine village of Dürnstein. The peak of a trip is the fifth day, when you come to Vienna. A local guide will lead you for an excellent walking tour of this city of music and the Habsburgs. In the afternoon a walk and a visit of a wine Heurige in the Vienna Woods will be waiting for you. On the sixth day you’ll be delighted by the views of the old town of Bratislava and by stories from a local guide. And the last, but not least town which you’ll see on the seventh day is Budapest. You’ll havee a tour at the old town and castle district with a guide in the morning, then stroll amidst the leafy romantic Margaret Island in the afternoon. On the eighth day, you’ll be transferred to Budapest airport for the flight home…

As you might guess, you’ll be staying on the beautifully appointed 164 passenger AmaCerto for seven nights. The ship features a Fitness Centre, Massage, Hair and Beauty salon; complimentary Internet access and first-run Hollywood movies; plus a fleet of bicycles to enhance your river cruise experience. Moreover, a magnificent glass elevator is one of the unique design elements found onboard, as well as exclusive “Twin Balconies”. The beautifully-decorated and spacious accommodations range in size up to 350 sq. ft. Relax in a heated Sun Deck swimming pool with a “swim-up” bar; enjoy Chaîne des Rôtisseurs culinary creations in five dining venues. If all that sound unbelievable for you, come on board and see yourself.
