Kufstein – Koenigssee

kufstein

From the Austrian city Kufstein to the stunning Königssee near Berchtesgaden in Germany you’ll be hiking more than 80 km through the spectacular Alpine mountain scenery.

This route wends its way through several mountain ranges, including the Wilder Kaiser, Zahmer Kaiser, Kitzbühler Alpen including the famous Hahnenkamm (of Franz Klammer fame), Leoganger Steinberge and Steinernes Meer. It culminates beneath the mighty Watzmann range, with many options for extra peaks, energy levels and time permitting.

This is an ideal tour for the seasoned hutter, comfortable with high grade alpine walking. There are fixed wires, exposed paths, steep climbs and descents, scree crossing, scenic traverses, ridges, forest paths… in fact everything that makes a great hutting holiday! On your way to Koenigssee you’ll see changing scenery: from meadows carpeted with flowers to sheer limestone rock with jagged ridges, deep blue lakes and the opportunity to see deer, Ibex and marmots amongst other wild animals.

Once you’ve left Kufstein there will be stays in alpine huts all the way until the last night. Many huts are located in spectacular places, with panoramic views across the Alps or nestling below high peaks.

Highlights
*The views along the Wilder Kaiser Steig on the way to the Grutten Hut.
*The possibility to see wild animals
*A swim in deep blue lakes.
