Walking Across Europe is superb so get on your walking boots to see the region at its very best and really get away from it all.

Jacob’s trail

j trailJacob’s trail, otherwise known as Salzburg’s St. James’s way is a popular 1000 year trail through the foothills of the alps. Many years ago the pilgrims that walked the trail were welcomed by the people of Salzburg and treated very well. The trail takes you along peaceful country roads, through beautiful countryside, walking trails and forest trails and in the “pre alps” region  you’ll see some quaint little farmhouses, small villages, lakes and soft green hills.

In Salzburg there are some lovely churches and ecclesiastical monuments and don’t forget to take a trip to Maria Plain to visit the baroque pilgrim church. Rupert’s Winkl, across the German border and the mountain village of Lofer are among some of the other great destinations on the tour.

Remember to take a camera because you’ll be mesmerized by the beauty of the lakes too; Lake Wallersee, Lake Salzachsee and Lake Pillersee.

The walk is self guided, so you can go at your own pace but it’s better if you have some experience of self-guided walking because some of the walks can be about 6 hours long. Not all the trails are lengthy so you will have time to visit the villages and any other places that you find interesting along the way. If however you find it too demanding, there are buses or trains that will shorten the walk considerably.
