Walking and wine: Châteauneuf du Pape

Chateauneuf du Pape 2Having grown grapes here for over 700 years, we can definitely say that Châteauneuf du Pape is the most renowned wine village in France. A quaint location, home to just 2000 people, its houses circle all the way up to the 14th century castle ruins and it’s vines thrive on the perfect conditions of the hot sun, red rocks and mistral winds.

The vineyards should of course be visited on foot and the best way to do this is to wander from one family-owned vineyard to the next, taking in the beautiful surroundings and amazing views. This walk is very easy but very enjoyable.

Staying in a bed and breakfast in the centre of Châteauneuf du Pape, you will have lots of time to walk and enjoy the local wines, visit famed vineyards and learn about the different vines in the half day guided tour by a local wine savvy.

On your last day you will get the chance to go up into the hills above Gigondas (known as Châteauneuf du Pape’s little brother). Gigondas is very well known for its important red wines, especially the Syrah and Mourvedre but Rosé wines are also produced here. The Rhône Valley from it’s elevated position, will leave you overwhelmed by its spectacular views over the vineyards and villages below.

Self-guided tour apart from half day tour with wine expert.
