Walking Across Europe is superb so get on your walking boots to see the region at its very best and really get away from it all.
This particular hiking vacation takes you beside the River Rhine in Germany and is a level 2-3 self-guided walking holiday. This walking holiday will explore the Rheinsteig, a way marked walking trial on the eastern bank of the river Rhine. In total the Rheinsteig is 320km long but your journey between Koblenz and Rüdesheim is on average per day 12 miles, 20km long.
You will see many castles hanging on cliff edges and amongst the forests, lovely little villages, medieval towns, giving you a sense that Germany is not all about cities and the hustle and bustle of city life but that it offers some amazing scenery, some of the world best. Vineyards and breath-taking views across the magnificent river will make all of the effort you make getting there really worth as you gaze at arguably Germanys most famous river. You will also pass directly the legendary Loreley rock, a visual site not to be missed and a spectacular addition to this already spectacular trip.
Walking through fields, forests and vineyards to the castle Gutenfels and into the Volkenbachtal valley are some of the examples of Germany’s offers; such sights and beautiful scenery for the walker it could be said are peerless anywhere else. In Assmannhausen you should use the possibility to get by the chair-lift so you can get high easily to the nature-reserve Niederwald. Near Loreley Rock there are many viewpoints of the rock formations and river valley. You will descend down to Wellmich before climbing again to castle Maus. There are many castles in Germany, this walking holiday pinpoints some just some of them, however the castles you do see along the way, are very much worth it.
