Camino Roque Bermejo: Hiking in Tenerife

Camino Roque Bermejo Hiking in Tenerife 2Some good detailed maps of Hiking in The Canary Islands can be found at www.es.wikiloc.com

Did you know that Las Islas Canarias (The Canary Islands) have many amazing hiking trails and opportunities to choose from? Tenerife, for example, is highly recommended.

The route from Chamorga to Roque de Taborno is somewhat 10 kilometres of views of attractive valleys that help you reach the coastal settlement of Bermejo. The route features rugged valley and coastal paths that are often broad and clear, and yet sometimes stony and narrow. The last miles are easy, as they stretch along roads.

The route starts off at the end of the road at Chamorga, where the bus turns around near the bar Casa Alvaro. As you walk down off the end of the road, the track narrows and a sign saying “Camino Roque Bermejo” is passed. Avoid a concrete path and pass a solitary building. In general, the path is boulder-paved. These telegraph poles are carrying a power line to the lighthouse that is called Faro de Anaga.

Camino Roque Bermejo Hiking in Tenerife 3The path will descend and feature a few of ruined buildings and lots of candelabra spurge and pears. You will pass some cultivated plots. The track to the Faro is off to the left, although it’s worth a few minutes to escape to the right to enjoy the views of the coast of Roque Bermejo. Go to Ermite, where palms and dragon trees grow. Keep it to the right and cross the waterspill. The track leads to the lighthouse. Find a sign for Las Palmas de Anaga. The lower part of the path will lead you to the water Fuente Del Junquillo.

Continue down the path to old terraces with a view out to the sea to the Roque de Dentro. Later on, the path will zigzag down to the farming spot of Las Palmas de Anaga. Keep the sea on your side and continue going uphill. You will arrive in the little village of El Draguillo. Follow the concrete path until the road called the Pista El Draguillo. Take a turn right to Afur. When you reach a stone-paved road, turn left. Vines will be growing just in the valley. The path climbs up the valley into a woodland that is full of birds singing. The altitude there is 600m. A path equipped with street lights will lead you to the little village of Afur. Enjoy a lovely church there. Also, there are bars and restaurants for refreshments and meals. A bus service is also provided.

Camino Roque Bermejo Hiking in Tenerife1Zigzag down into the valley. Lean towards left and a little upwards. You will definitely enjoy the views as you ascend from the valley. Don’t climb steps found just before the houses. Instead, turn left. A path will rise across the slope upwards to the village of Taborno. There are some nice attractions like a town square, a little chapel and the bar. Set off by facing the chapel. Continue to the path among laurels. The path will run down eventually. The views of Roque de Taborno are simply spectacular.
