The Emperor’s Path

Carlos-V-Yuste-Walk

Walk the Emperor’s way! Step on the route from Jarandilla to the Monastery of Yuste and experience 10km of picturesque path. You’ll trek on the ancient road connecting Jarandilla de la Vera and Cuacos de Yuste, through which the Emperor Charles V came to the Monastery of Yuste.

To commemorate this historical trip, go there in winter, as this event took place on the 3rd of February in 1557. During this event you’ll be pleased by typical local cuisine, enjoy theater performances, recalling the journey of the emperor and watch musical performances.

The beginning of the route is indicated by a plaque next to the Parador de Jarandilla (Jarandilla de la Vera). From this point you’ll continue along the Cuesta de los Carros, near the Church of St. Agustin and then right down the Marina street until you leave Jarandilla. Head towards the bridge called Parral, through a dirt road and a paved alley. Once you’ve past the bridge, follow a path upward, to the right. You’ll pass a small forest of oak trees and a sidewalk with stone walls, find a cement path along the road EX-203. After this small forest, overlooking the town of Aldeanueva de la Vera, you’ll cross the creek (called Cepeda) and continue down the road, where the church of San Pedro and a fountain called ‘Fuente de los Ocho Caños’ are situated. Step into the town of Cuacos, passing through the bridge called Tejar to the Santa Ana area. From here you’ll see a street, leading you to your final destination – the Monastery of Yuste.
