the Roman road of Capsacosta

romanroad

Another great historical route in Catalonia is the Roman road of Capsacosta. It‘s a genuine work of huge engineering importance and an exceptional testament to a historical period of great change for the country. A well preserved Roman part of this road stretches 8 km from Santa Pau de Seguries (in El Ripolles) to the Pas dels Traginers in La Vall de Bianya (La Garrotxa).

Moreover, walking on this path you‘ll see a lot of gutters, bridges, water deposits, and associated quarries and hostels. The walls, wheel-guards and all the other elements of the Roman road of Capsacosta are a testament to the extraordinary construction project carried out two thousand years ago. Along with other walkers, dress up like a real Roman on the last Sunday in October, and walk this route with its many hidden charms and go back 2,000 years in time.

starting point: Santa Pau de Seguries (in El Ripolles)
route length: 8 km
highlights: the Roman road of Capsacosta, gutters, bridges, water deposits, wheel-guards, historical path
finish point: Pas dels Traginers in La Vall de Bianya (La Garrotxa).
