How to get to Spain

If you think that you need to fly to get to Spain – please, think again! In fact, there’s availability to travel from London to Barcelona, Madrid, or Galicia by a high-speed train in a single day, having a great relaxing experience with a nice bottle of wine and beautiful landscapes through your window! No airports, no flights, no stress!

From December 2013, the TGV Duplex high-speed trains from Paris were extended to Girona and Barcelona. Travel from Paris to Barcelona in  6h 30 m, from the city center to the city center. There are a few options of traveling from London to Barcelona.

First, morning departure. Your journey begins by travelling from London to your final station Paris by Eurostar, departuring from London St Pancras at 09:17 on Monday-Fridays, 09:22 on Saturdays and Sundays. You will finally arrive at Paris Nord at 12:47.  Get to the Gare de Lyon by a taxi or metro, just 2 stops on RER line D.  Travel from Paris to your destination Barcelona by a double-deck high-speed TGV Duplex, departuring from Paris Gare de Lyon at 14:07 daily and arriving at Figures Vilafant at 19:42, Girona at 19:59 and Barcelona Sants at 20:40.

Second, late departure. Your journey begins by travelling from London to your final station Paris by Eurostar, departuring from London St Pancras at 11:31 (or 10:25 certain dates). You will finally arrive at Paris Nord at 14:47 (13:47 certain dates).  Get to the Gare de Lyon by a taxi or metro, just 2 stops on RER line D. Travel from Paris to your destination Barcelona by a double-deck high-speed TGV Duplex, departuring from Paris Gare de Lyon at 16:07 daily. You will finally arrive at Figures Vilafant at 21:50, Girona at 22:07 & Barcelona Sants at 22:48.

Third, overnight departure. Your journey begins by travelling from London to your destination Paris by any evening Eurostar train.  The last one leaves London St Pancras at 20.01. You will finally arrive at Paris Nord at 23:17. Stay overnight in Paris.  Suggested hotels can be found near the Gare de Lyon. In the morning, travel from Paris to your destination Barcelona from Gare de Lyon by double-deck high-speed TGV Duplex, departuring from Paris Gare de Lyon at 07:15 daily. You will finally arrive at Figures Vilafant at 12:42, Girona at 12:59 & Barcelona Sants at 13:40.

On the train. A bar is available on board.  You may want to book an upper deck seat for the best views as the train speeds along the picturesque and amazing French villages and churches.

Cost. Please be sure to book early for the cheapest fares. London to Paris by Eurostar starts at £39 one-way or £69 return in 2nd class. £107 one-way or £189 return in 1st class. Paris to Barcelona by TGV Duplex starts at €59 each way in 2nd class, €99 in 1st class.

Travel to Galicia by train: Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, A Coruña

You might travel from London to Paris by Eurostar, departuring from London St Pancras at 09:17 on Mondays-Fridays, 09:22 on Saturdays and Sundays, arriving at Paris Gare du Nord at 12:47. Get to the Gare Montparnasse by metro or a taxi. Then, travel from Paris to Irun by high-speed train TGV, departuring from Paris Montparnasse at 14:28 and arriving at Irun at 20:21.  You may find train times at Loco2.com or Capitainetrain.com Stay overnight in a hotel in Irun.  Among the offers, there is the Albergue Martindozenea (cheap, near the station, good reviews). In the morning, choose travelling from Irun to North-West Spain by air-conditioned Arco train Camino de Santiago, departuring from Irun at 08:45 and arriving at Santiago de Compostela at 19:29 and A Coruna at 20:03.  Change at Ourense for Vigo, arriving at Vigo 20:17. Feel free to bring your own snacks or wine for the journey.
